The Research Centre for the Social Sciences aims to contribute to the production of innovative knowledge both about the surrounding social reality at a local and regional level, and the Portuguese society, its processes of change and its articulation with the social changes at a global level. Currently, CICS counts with 30 PhD researchers coming from different Universities and areas of Social Sciences, and 18 PhD students developing research around the following main themes: Culture, Science and Identity; Organisations, Territory and Development; Population, Family and Health and also Work, Inequalities and Public Policies. CICS promotes scientific research through the organisation of events, publications of research results, cooperation with other institutions and national and international centres of investigation and the participation in the training of young researchers.
