Objectives: (i) To analyse the evolution of the rates and causes of child mortality in the period between 1970 and 2009; (ii) to identify the critical factors/determinants for the reduction of child mortality in this period; (iii) to analyse the current child mortality and make proposals for the reduction of possible regional differences.
